"The Freshwater Fishes of British Columbia"
The University of Alberta Press
7in x 10in, 620pg

This project entailed a great deal of information design and integration; including multiple levels of headings, notes, maps, tables, identifications keys and figures. Eighty-one comprehensive species accounts consist of an illustration, the scientific and common names of the fish, its distinguishing characteristics, taxonomic comments, geographic distribution, a life-history summary, a habitat-use summary, and conservation comments.

The four column format was chosen for its ability to present the images while allowing for a readable text block with a column on the left hand side. This column was not only used for first level headings, thus saving vertical space and allowing easy navigation, but was also used for notes and captions as well. All information in this book was redesigned apart from the maps, which were used as they were provided.

Proud winner of a 2008 Alcuin Society book design award; Freshwater Fishes of British Columbia will be exhibited across Canada, at the Leipzig book fair in Germany, and in Japan. For more information please visit the Alcuin Society website.
